I Dare You To Read This Post To See If You Are As Pro-Gun As Rick Ector!

Today, there is a meme floating all over Facebook whereby posters are sharing how "Detroit" they are by recalling either their childhood memories or experiences about growing up in our city.

Alternatively, I thought that I would change it up a bit if I shared with my contacts exactly how pro-gun I am.

I am so pro-gun that I believe that it is none of your doctor's business whether you own a firearm.

I am so pro-gun, that the status of being a gun owner would be a legally protected class.

I am so pro-gun that you would not need a license to carry a firearm - open or concealed. #ConstitutionalCarry

I am so pro-gun that reporters in the media should be required to take firearm safety and firearm identification training.

I am so pro-gun that every able-bodied citizen would be required to qualify annually with a firearm as a matter of public safety and national security.

I am so pro-gun that I envision a country where there would not be a need for a NRA. Further, groups such as MAIG, VPC, and MDA would be classified as subversive organizations.

I am so pro-gun, every community recreation center would have a gun range.

I am so pro-gun that gun rights would be as sacred as voting, sitting on a jury, and running for office. If you are not imprisoned or mentally incompetent, there should be a pathway for firearm rights restoration - on a case by case basis - per a review by a judge or another authority.

I am so pro-gun that I could care less what kind of firearm you carry and how you carry it as long as it was done safely and responsibly.

I am so pro-gun, that gun buy-backs would be punished as crimes: fraud, larceny, and misappropriation of public dollars.

I am so pro-gun, that firearm registration would be a capital offense.

I am so pro-gun, that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms would be a chain of shopping stores.

I am so pro-gun, I would repeal the NFA and the GCA.

I am so pro-gun, that citizens could legally own any firearm that our military uses.

I am so pro-gun, that every state in the union would allow citizens to own firearms.

I am so pro-gun, firearm safety and marksmanship would be taught in the schools.

I am so #pro-gun, all gun free zones would be abolished.

So, are you you as pro-gun as I am?

Rick Ector To Appear on NRA's "Cam and Co." To Discuss Armed Citizens' Role in Reducing Detroit Crime

In today's Detroit News' newspaper, Detroit Police Chief James Craig acknowledges that armed good citizens in Detroit had a role in reducing violent crime in the city of Detroit.

Detroit has seen 37 percent fewer robberies in 2014 than during the same period last year, 22 percent fewer break-ins of businesses and homes, and 30 percent fewer carjackings. Craig says: "Criminals are getting the message that good Detroiters are armed and will use that weapon."

Tomorrow evening, I will be appearing on the NRA's "Cam and Company Show" to discuss Chief Craig's comments. The show will broadcast at 6:00pm EST on the Sportsman Channel.

Tune in!

Michigan CPL FAQ: Do I Need To Disclose That I Am Armed To Every Police Officer I See?

Do I Need To Disclose That I Am Armed To Every Police Officer I See?

Q: Do I need to let the police know that I have a CPL and that I am armed if they around me?

A: According to MCL 28.425
"(3) An individual licensed under this act to carry a concealed pistol and who is carrying a concealed pistol or a portable device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology and who is stopped by a peace officer shall immediately disclose to the peace officer that he or she is carrying a pistol or a portable device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology concealed upon his or her person or in his or her vehicle."

If the police are merely around you, you do not have an obligation to go up to them and announce that you have a CPL and are armed. In fact, you might even irritate them by doing do.

However, if you are on foot or in a vehicle, and if they STOP you, then YES, you have a duty to IMMEDIATELY disclose your status if you are carrying a concealed pistol or TASER. Moreover, if you summon the police or if the police wish to specifically talk to you about an investigation they are conducting, IMMEDIATELY disclose that you are carrying a concealed pistol or TASER.

In addition:
"(1) An individual who is licensed under this act to carry a concealed pistol shall have his or her license to carry that pistol in his or her possession at all times he or she is carrying a concealed pistol or a portable device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology.

(2) An individual who is licensed under this act to carry a concealed pistol and who is carrying a concealed pistol or a portable device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology shall show both of the following to a peace officer upon request by that peace officer:

(a) His or her license to carry a concealed pistol.
(b) His or her driver license or Michigan personal identification card."

In general, I don't go out of my way to speak to LEOs unless I know them personally. If anything, it's a passing salutation.

Rick Ector Appears In NRANews' Special Report - Detroit: Armed and Determined

Here is the report that NRANews' Ginny Simone created during her visit to Detroit a few short months ago.

It is an upbeat and positive story about Detroiters not giving up on their city. Rather than flee to the suburbs, they are digging in and fighting back against violent crime. Several of my students and friends were featured in the story.

Check it out!
