Detroit Firearms Instructor will run a Three Day "Personal Protection Awareness Weekend" event to provide FREE safety information and training to metro area residents.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Detroit, Michigan - Monday, July 30th, 2012 - Local community safety advocate, Rick Ector, is organizing a three day event in August to provide FREE personal protection and community safety information to metro-Detroit residents. The event, "Personal Protection Awareness Weekend," features a day of free personal and community seminars, a day dedicated to providing free firearm safety training for at least 50 women, and an Open Carry gun rights dinner in Detroit.
The weekend long event was the brainchild of Ector - a NRA certified firearms instructor - who wanted to expand his community service projects to include activities not dedicated solely to handguns. Ector states, "I realize that firearm ownership and usage is not an option that everyone in our community is ready to embrace. So, I branched out and partnered with other local community service groups to provide access to safety info that details other options. Given the current state of inadequate public safety resources, learning how to stay safe from violent is a topic on everyone's mind these days."
The free seminar training, taking place on Saturday, August 11th, features safety presentations from several local organizations: Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment (SAFE), It Takes A Village Ya'll, the Detroit Police Department, Michigan TASER Distributing, Michigan Open Carry Inc., and Rick's Firearm Academy of Detroit. Topics covered include "Empowerment Options for Survivors of Domestic Violence," "Building Safer Communities in our Neighborhoods," "The TASER as a Personal Protection Option," "Personal Protection Tips," "Handgun Open Carry Info," and the "Michigan Concealed Pistol License."
