Personal Protection Tip: Learn The Difference Between Cover and Concealment
Personal Protection Tip: Learn The Difference Between Cover and Concealment. If you are ever selected for victimization, your first objective is to increase the distance between yourself and your assailant.
Ideally, you should head towards "cover" which will protect you from being harmed. Alternatively, you should avoid taking refuge behind something that merely provides "concealment" but not protection.
Examples of cover include, but is not limited to, engine blocks, brick building corners, and large tree trunks. In contrast, items that only provide concealment includes, but is not limited to, darkness, bushes, and shrubbery.

Personal Protection Tip: Billboards Are Distractions
Personal Protection Tip: Billboards Are Distractions. While on the road you should be actively engaged in your surroundings: keep proper spacing for a fast exit, check every once in a while to ensure you are not being followed, and look for potential threats while stopped at traffic signals.
If you are reading billboards, it is a sign that you are a distracted motorist and that may draw the attention of bad guys who look for inattentive drivers to attack.

Personal Protection Tip: A Mirror Is Your Friend
Personal Protection Tip: A Mirror Is Your Friend. A quick glance at a mirror can alert you to the presence of potential hazards to your safety. Be sure to use them every time you either step into a convenience store or occupy space at a gas station - two very dangerous places to be these days.

[Video] Rick Ector Appears on NRA's Cam and Co. To Discuss Armed Citizen Stories
Rick Ector, a National Rifle Association (NRA) Credentialed Firearms and Personal Protection Trainer based in Detroit Michigan, made an appearance on the National Rifle Association's (NRA) "Cam and Company Show" this past Monday - Sept. 10th.
The embedded video below captured the full discussion about how bad crime in Detroit has worsened. For example, last Friday, a Detroit resident used his legally carried firearm to defend himself from two predators at a local gas station. As a consequence, many Detroit residents are no longer content with relying on the Detroit Police Department to keep them safe. Violent crime in Detroit is out of control and the police are not keeping pace with crime.
In addition, Ector was allowed time to discuss a benefit fundraiser that he is conducting on the behalf of a woman CPL-holder who used her firearm to thwart a carjacking and as a result saved not only her life but the lives of two other occupants in her vehicle. Watch the video below and hear what he had to say.

Detroit CPL Class Instructor Organizes Benefit For Local Heroine
Rick Ector, a National Rifle Association (NRA) Credentialed Firearms and Personal Protection Trainer based in Detroit Michigan, is organizing a benefit fundraiser for a local heroine.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Detroit, MI – September 10, 2012 – Rick Ector, a National Rifle Association (NRA) Credentialed Firearms Trainer and gun rights activist based in Detroit Michigan, has partnered with Biggby Coffee of Southfield to conduct a benefit fundraiser on the behalf of a local heroine.
During this current week - September 10th through September 16th - Biggby Coffee of Southfield, MI is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of full priced "grande/specialty" beverages to a benefit entitled, "A Helping Hand For Alaina." All persons wishing to support this benefit will need to download a special coupon and present it at the Biggby Coffee Shop in Southfield, MI (26185 Evergreen Road) on any day of this current week. Persons wishing to meet "Alaina" in person can do so by being at the coffee shop on Wednesday (Sept. 12th) between 5:30pm and 7:00pm.
The beneficiary - Alaina - was recently identified by a metro-Detroit area TV station as a local woman who was assaulted during a violent carjacking attempt by two dangerous predators. The report stated that her vehicle was senselessly riddled by bullets from an AK-47 rifle until she returned fire with her legally concealed and carried handgun. After shooting back at her assailants, the bad guys quickly left the scene.
In the aftermath of the gunfight, Alaina suffered significant damage to her arm. In fact, the damage was so great that it is not known if she will ever recover full use of her limb. As a consequence of the shooting, she can no longer work as a waitress which was her primary means of supporting herself and her three small children.
Alaina credits having her firearm with her with not only saving her life but the lives of two other people who were also present in her vehicle at the time of the unprovoked attack:
Ector explains his rationale for organizing this fundraiser as the following, "When I first heard the story, I immediately knew that I wanted to do something to help. Fortunately, I was able to discover fairly quickly a means of doing just that with the help from the great people at Biggby Coffee of Southfield. Hopefully, many others in the community will feel as compassionate as I do and lend this event their assistance."
Persons who wish to make a donation, of any amount, can do so online using the button below in this page:
If you have a Facebook account, please consider visiting our official Benefit Event Page and our Rick's Firearm Academy of Detroit Page.

Video: Operation Firearm Rescue Outbids Police For Gun at Detroit Buy-Back
On Thursday, August 30th, 2012, the St. Cecilia Catholic Church teamed up with the Detroit Police Department to conduct another gun buyback program. They offered as little as $25 for firearms. Of course, the citizens were being financially exploited. The event became more interesting when followers of Michigan Open Carry, Inc. and Legally Armed In Detroit (LAID) showed up to make better offers. Check out the slideshow below to see what happened.
