Personal Protection Tips: Don't Dismiss Warning Signs Broadcast By Familiar People

Personal Protection Tips: Don't Dismiss Warning Signs Broadcast By Familiar People - Today's tip was inspired by news reports of two separate murder-suicide incidents.

In the first story, on this past Friday a Wyoming man after killing another man went to a community college where he then killed yet another man and himself with a knife inside of a classroom occupied with students.

In the other story, a professional football player with the Kansas City Chiefs organization reportedly killed his girlfriend at a team practice facility a short time before venturing to the team's football stadium before killing himself in front of a coach and general manager.

Fortunately, murder-suicide events are not common but enough of them have occurred in the past such that criminologists are confident that warning signs are broadcast in advance. In general, this crime is caused by a feeling of hopelessness which may be brought upon by sudden illness, job loss, or a change in social status.

If you are close to a person who has informed you that they have entertained thoughts of killing themselves or have threatened you with harm, you should take their comments seriously and not dismiss them as harmless statements.
