Michigan Personal Protection Tip: Thwart Home-Invasion Attempts

Michigan Personal Protection Tip - Thwart A Home-Invasion - A common tactic used by burglars to test whether a residence is safe to break into is to simply ring the doorbell. If the home-owner fails to respond in some fashion within a reasonable amount of time, the bad guys simply go to the rear of the home and smash a brick or large rock into a back window so that they can gain access. Obviously, for this reason, home-owners should explore options to safeguard windows to the rear of their property.

In addition, home-owners should also make every effort to respond to visitors to their homes. If there is an unannounced and unexpected knock on the door or a ringing of your doorbell, it should be safely answered. Your response could very well thwart a burglary or a home-invasion attempt due to the fact that the bad guys knows someone is in the house. However, do keep in mind that some predators have no qualms about entering an occupied dwelling, so be cautious whenever you answer your door.
