FAQ: Is It Legal To Walk On A School's Outdoor Track While Carrying A Firearm?
Ask The Michigan Firearms Instructor
Q: The weather is getting nice so I will be outside walking again; it's 5 blocks to my local high school. If I walk on their track while carrying a firearm would I be breaking the law?
A: If you have a CPL, it would be legal for you to Open Carry (OC) your handgun while on school property. However, if you concealed carried on school property - with a CPL - you would be violating the pistol-free zone provision of the concealed carry law. If you wish to OC, educate yourself with an Open Carry Class.

Laws covering self-defense, lethal force, firearms, and the Michigan Concealed Pistol License and their enforcement are always subject to change due to laws being amended, politics conducted in the Prosecutor's Office, and election results at all levels of government. Ignorance of the law, legally speaking, is not a valid excuse for running afoul of it. The penalties and fines imposed upon violators of firearms related offenses are stiff and severe.
