Michigan CPL Class FAQ: Can I Accompany My Kids At Their School's Playground If I OC With A CPL?

Ask The Michigan Firearms Instructor
Q: I am taking my kids to the playground at their school. I have a CPL. As I understand it, I can open carry on school property. Is this correct?

A: Yes. You are on school property which is a gun free zone as defined in MCL 750.237a and a conceal carry pistol free zone as defined in MCL 28.425o. However, you are exempt if you OC on school property, per the exemption granted in MCL 750.237a.
