Michigan Personal Protection Tips: Install A Fence That Doesn't Sacrifice Security For Privacy

Many people are tempted to install a privacy fence around their property to keep prying eyes from observing their activities while they are at home. Whereas it is true that a privacy fence will prevent neighbors from ogling and staring at a person sunbathing in her backyard, it can also provide cover for a person who has scaled over it to commit a burglary.

Fences, in general, provide an extra layer of security around a home by requiring would-be criminals to exert more effort to mount an attack than would be necessary against a home without a fence.

Most fencing solutions are not designed to be impenetrable. All a bad guy has to do to get past most fences is to simply climb over it, which is not beyond the skill-set of a common crook. If the compromised fence is a privacy fence, the crook will also have the benefit of the fence hiding the actual break-in from the view of neighbors.

A fence surrounding the property of a residence is a good idea. However, if a privacy fence is installed, it can be counter-productive and facilitate an attack on your home.
