Michigan Personal Protection Tip: Avoid Criticizing And Confronting Strangers

Michigan Personal Protection Tips - Avoid Criticizing And Confronting Strangers

If you should witness someone engaging in some act or behavior that you personally do not like, think twice before confronting them and criticizing them. In a perfect world, some people might welcome unsolicited advice and suggestions. Nowadays, people expect to be left alone, regardless of how badly their behavior is perceived by others.

Within recent memory, two people have been shot and killed for offering unsolicited advice in Detroit. The first story that comes to mind was the local minister who asked his neighbors to turn down their loud music which was blaring well past a respectable hour. He was shot and killed. The other story that I recall was about a man who yelled at a driver who was allegedly driving too fast down a residential street. That critic was also shot and killed.

Criticizing and correcting people these days carries risk. If the behavior you see does not merit or warrant calling the police, you should strongly consider whether the matter is truly that important to risk starting an incident which could escalate into a serious confrontation. In essence, is it truly that important? If it isn't, you should keep it moving and mind your business.
