Personal Protection Tip: Carry A Walking Stick

Personal Protection Tip: Carry A Walking Stick

Over the last couple of years, I have seen an increase in the number of people who are in the possession of either a walking stick or a cane. In the preceding years, the persons I observed with canes were usually senior citizens who appeared to actually need them for support while standing or walking.
Nowadays, a cane or a walking stick appears to be standard fare for many people out in public. Due to the fact that the bearers "seem" to walk pretty good and in many cases the end of the cane rarely touches the ground, I have reached the conclusions that people are now carrying them "in plain sight" as a self-defense tool.
In the proper hands, a cane or a walking stick can be a formidable and indispensable tool against an attacker. Additionally, you can usually carry them in places where you could not carry a firearm. I am not arguing that it is better to have a cane when being attacked than having a gun but being armed with a sturdy cane beats not having anything.

Moreover, several self-defense instructors have picked up on the trend and now offer for sale a variety of fighting systems and specialized training materials that feature the usage of a cane or a walking stick. One such system - Cane Fu - was even featured in an ABC national news story.
