Personal Protection Tip: Exercise Precaution On Home Service Calls
Despite your best efforts to be independent, you may at some point in time need to invite a service technician into your home. Everyone needs help sometime: furnace woes, plumbing problems, appliance breakdowns, and etc.
Unless you personally know and can vouch for the character of the person who is going to be dispatched to your residence, you should always take reasonable precautions:
- Never hire someone you did not call.
- Verify in advance person works for company you called.
- Verify in advance person has requisite licenses.
- Never let someone in your home unless it is necessary.
- Never be alone when a service person shows up to work.
- Never leave valuables in plain view.
- Always close all interior doors of your property.
- Never allow service person to be unsupervised.
- Never discuss your working hours or personal info.
- Never allow service person to see you disabling alarm systems.
- Ensure all windows are locked when service person leaves.
- Stay alert for anything that seems odd or weird.
