We provide one-on-one shooting supervision in the shooting booth. We understand that you need expert instruction on the safe operation of a pistol from a whisper away.
Unlike the others, we do not have one instructor who watches five students on the range at the same time. We are right there with you each and every step along the way to ensure that you are safe while learning.
Finally, our Chief Instructor actually teaches the class. He does not rely upon the playing of out-of-date and boring DVDs as a substitute for quality and up-to-date instruction.
Our training is a 100 percent live and entertaining presentation which ensure that you fully grasp and understand the material well after you leave the classroom. My students see for themselves how fast the GroupOn classes are over before we reach the half-way point of our class.
Our Chief instructor has been training citizens, such as yourself, for over 18 years with a 100 percent safety record. We are especially adept at training first-time shooters, women, and seniors.

Rick Ector Quoted in Detroit News Story About Michigan's New Firearm Storage Law
Today, I was quoted in a Detroit News article on Michigan's new firearm storage law.
I do not support this law. It is reactive and does nothing to make anyone safer. It only doles out punishment. It would be more profitable if we trained children about guns in the beginning - not after a tragedy happened.
Ignorance kills.

FREE Seminar: Important New Laws That Michigan Firearm Owners Must Know By Valentines Day of 2024
During a past legislative session, the state of Michigan passed significant and sweeping firearm laws that are of high interest and concern to anyone who is or will potentially soon become a gun owner:
- Red Flag Law
This law enables the state to potentially raid your residence at gun-point with no advance warning to confiscate your guns. If you survive the encounter, you will have to legally petition a court at significant financial expense to have your guns returned and have your God-given right to own them restored.
- Firearm Storage Law
This new law provides for significant fines and lengthy incarceration in prison for persons who are convicted of not properly securing their guns.
- Rifle and Shotgun Registration Law
This new law provides for fines and jail time for persons who do not register their rifles and shotguns. These new gun laws go into effect in Michigan on Valentine's Day of 2024!
This seminar is specifically designed for the following people:
- Michigan residents who have guns at home
- Michigan residents who may buy guns
- Michigan residents with guns or CPLs
There is little time left to make yourself responsibly aware of these new laws before they take effect!
Not knowing these laws or claiming ignorance is no excuse!
The penalties are potentially harsh, severe, and costly.
Penalties for violations of the new gun laws can be as high as 15 years of imprisonment and/or $10,000 in fines!
A representative from Firearms Legal Protection (FLP) will also be present to give a timely and critical presentation on how gun owners, who are charged with these new crimes, can responsibly and affordably defend themselves from potential criminal charges and fines brought by the state.
Legally Armed In Detroit will be organizing and conducting a free seminar on Saturday, February 17th at Liberty General Baptist Church, 3545 Joslyn Road, Auburn Hills, MI 48326.
Registered attendees with valid CPLs will be allowed to legally conceal carry their pistols on the premises.
Attendees will be empowered with information and suggestions to limit their exposure on this newly emerging gun owner's landscape.
To meet the demand for this training, only one session will held at 12 noon.
Advance registration is required!
Tuition for this class is FREE.
Advance FREE online registration is required.
We offered this class first in December. This may be the last time we ever offer this event.
This event is sponsored by Rick Ector of Legally Armed In Detroit, a local gun rights organization that has provided free firearms training for 9,000 Michigan women over the past twelve years.
Ector serves on the National Rifle Association (NRA) Board of Directors and is a life member of the NRA. If you are a voting eligible member of the NRA, you will receive a ballot in the March issue of your designated magazine. Vote for Rick Ector to be re-elected to the NRA Board of Directors.
This event is being hosted at Liberty General Baptist Church, 3545 Joslyn Road, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Attendees with valid CPLs will be allowed to legally conceal carry their pistols on the premises. Pastor Buddy Franz is the presiding official of the church.

A Responsible Gun Owner Needs Training
How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 10
During the class, I learned a staggering amount of information about the safe usage, storage, loading, unloading, handling, purchasing, transporting, and maintenance of firearms. Before that day, I truly did not know how much I did not know about firearms.
I was introduced to the nomenclature of all of the firearm’s constituent parts on both a revolver and a semi-automatic, learned how the parts inter-operated to create a discharge, learned the legal aspects of self defense and lethal force, learned how the media and “certain powers that be” distort the truth and spread outright lies about handguns, learned the proper fundamentals of shooting a firearm, learned a few shooting stances, and learned how to become a more hardened target.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 9
I’ll Do Or Try Almost Anything Once – Even Shoot A Gun
So, my big adventure continued as I went to a local range to shoot a handgun for the very first time in my life. For the record, it is not recommended to visit a firing range without first taking a gun safety class or at the very least taking along a knowledgeable shooter with you.
In fact, it is dangerous. I didn’t know any better. You have read this passage, so now you know. Ignorance kills. The Bible says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.”
I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I was lucky. Any number of things, all of them bad, could have happened that day. Fortunately for me, I checked my ego at the door and asked someone behind the counter for help.
I got a very basic introduction but critical 20 second tutorial: Don’t load it until you are in the booth, Always keep the gun pointed downrange, Position your hands so that they are not in the path of the slide, and unload the gun before you leave the booth.
I managed not to hurt myself or anyone else. However, if I had experienced a hang fire or a squib load in the booth, things may have turned out differently. I must say that I was rather proud of myself after shooting.
Shooting was an enjoyable experience. It was a blast – pun intended. My adrenaline was pumping; I was high off of shooting a gun. I guess I had just found myself a new and exciting hobby.
As I was driving home from the range that afternoon, still mentally digesting the requirements for the CPL, I had arrived at an intersection whereby the stoplight had just turned red. The car in front of mine had an advertisement on the back of it for a "CCW Class."
More than ever, I believe that when your mind is truly ready for something, the Lord will make it appear. This situation merely provided confirmation. I immediately called the displayed phone number and discovered that there was a class being held on the very next day. I RSVP’d and took the class on the very next day.

How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 8
How NRA Firearms Instructor Rick Ector Was Robbed In His Own Driveway - Part 8
Pure luck, it seems, brought a gun into my possession that fit my hand perfectly. I couldn’t test fire it, as the shop didn’t have a range. So I had to “take it on faith” that I could handle shooting it. I must have filled out a ream of paperwork that day; it was like closing on a house.
Anyhow, it’s funny now recounting the experience, but I was – in all truth – nervous while carrying my new encased gun from the back entrance of the shop to my car. I mused how ironic and funny it would be if I was to now be robbed of my new gun at the gun shop.
My next stop on my personal armament tour would be to venture back downtown to police headquarters to have my new firearm “safety inspected.” Before having my gun inspected, I had no idea of what tests they were going to perform to properly test my gun.
After they safety inspected my gun, I am still ignorant to the process even though I witnessed it with my very own eyes. Bottom line: by the time I left police headquarters this time, my name, my personal info, and the fact that I owned a handgun were now entered into a database.
On my departure from police headquarters I picked up a copy of an application for a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) from the front desk. I opened the envelope and read the application. It was rather lengthy but informative. I figured that I would peruse it more thoroughly in my car. Right before I left the building, I asked a near-by police officer for a place where I could go and shoot my new gun. He specified a range and told me how to get there.
